Great start to the 2012 racing season. He didn’t get a win, but did prove the car runs very well and has the stuff to get it done. We would like to thank all of our sponsors and the stickers should all be on for Friday night. The heat races and feature are below.

We were a little anxious about the car before the race. Tom put it together in kind of a rush and didn’t get a chance to run at a test-n-tune to make sure it was good to go. Tom got the pole to start the second heat. We thought there might be something wrong when he fell back in the heat, but he kept going and finished fifth. After the race he said it ran good. He didn’t have any concerns about how the car ran.
For the Feature Tom started ninth out of eighteen cars. I was pretty surprised to see Tom start passing cars right off the start. Tom gradually worked his through traffic and by the second caution was in third place with just a few laps remaining. On the restart Tom jumped ahead into second and just ran out laps before he could get the lead. Friday night was a really good start to the 2012 season. Tom finished 2nd in the Feature. Tom test drove Cody Erickson’s Mod4(1x) last night. He hopes to move up next season and wanted to get a feel for the difference. I had camera problems for the heat, so I don’t have video of that. Tom made through a couple laps of the heat before he spun out on the front straight away. He was having some problems steering the car because of how close the steering wheel was to him. He kept hitting his elbows inside the car. He got it figured out a bit for the feature though, with a little help from a hammer. For the Feature Tom started at the back in the 1x car. Tom held it on the track well. It will take some time, but if last night was any indication he’ll be just fine. A BIG THANK YOU to Cody Erickson for putting your trust in Tom and letting him try out your car last night!
Mod4 Feature

They had a lot of cars in every class last night at the track. It ended up being a dry track with a lot of cautions. They had three heats of Hornets and Tom started in the second heat in the back. By the time Tom got worked through the first four cars ahead of him, he ran out of laps to catch Scott Lampton and Bryce Mueller. Tom ended up with third place in the heat. On the redraw for the Feature Tom got fourth. He started directly behind Chris Julsrud and Bryce to his inside. Chris jumped out to a lead off each of the restarts. Tom after they actually got some laps in secured second place, but Chris had built up a pretty good lead. Tom wasn’t able to make up any ground on Chris, So they ended up finishing with Chris Julsrud, Tom, and Parker Bilden as the top three finishers.

There were a lot of Hornets at the track last night. Twenty four of them to be exact. That makes for a wild night for our favorite driver. Tom got the pole in the third Heat and that worked great for him, because everyone else seemed to be stuck in group a little over a quarter of a lap behind him. Yep, he got the Heat win. Tom wasn’t lucky enough to get the pole again for the feature, but he did start fourth. Starting on the outside just hasn’t worked as well the last month or two. Tom can’t get enough speed going around the corners up top to gain ground on the lead cars. That seemed to be what happened tonight. When he went low he got stuck behind a car and when he was high he couldn’t gain on anyone. He did manage to come up with fifth though. I’ve lost count of top 5 finishes he’s had this year, but add 1 more to whatever that number is.

Heat 3 Tom’s Heat

Fun night at Greenbush last night. Tom started in sixth place for the Heat. It took him a lap to get the car really cooking out there. After the first couple laps Tom had worked his way to third and just kind of held that spot till the last lap. On that lap he had enough get up and go to grab 2nd place. For the Feature, they started where they finished. So Tom started 2nd and fell back a little on the start. With starting on the outside for the race he couldn’t get a good bite around the corners till he worked his way to the bottom. Then he got to work and started to chase down the leader. With about five laps Tom took the lead and was running great, till he got stuck behind a lap car and lost the lead. I didn’t know if he had enough time left to catch the lead car again, but on the last lap Tom took back the lead on the back straight away. As they came off turn four the 17 car give it one last shot to take the win, but Tom held him off for the Victory. GREAT RACE GREAT TIME!!!

INTERVIEW AT INTERMISSION

We thought the car was ready to go, but of course we were wrong. Before the Heat I started the car to make sure it was good to go. After it got up to running temperature it started leaking antifreeze out of the bottom of the fill tube. We had to take it off, put silicone on it, let that dry, put duct tape around that and then a zip tie to make sure it kept pressure on it. I’m not sure how, but it held up for the night. Tom started sixth in the heat and came in fifth. Tom said that the car didn’t seem to have the power that it should. For the Feature Tom started tenth. He wasn’t really able to get his way to the front like we’ve grown acustomed to, but he held his own. After a couple of cautions Tom ended up in sixth place and manaaged to pass one more car before the checkered flag dropped. So he finished 5th in his Heat and 5th in the Feature. Tom ended up in tenth place for points at I94 Speedway. A nice finish to the season.
